I'm back

... from Texas. The race was a Texas-sized train wreck which I will write about this weekend or next. There was a little time for visiting and celebrating our anniversary. Mostly, I ground out a bunch of equations which I'm not sure have a lot of merit other than demonstrating that the exact distribution of our statistic is basically intractable. You can do it, but there isn't much point. What I was able to establish was an upper and lower bound on the variance that is fairly easy to compute. That will be useful for sure. I did all this on paper and I'm not sure I'll get it all typeset in time for my meeting with my adviser tomorrow. It's already close to midnight and I've got quite a ways to go.
