It's showtime, folks.

Had a good meeting with my adviser today. He's 100% behind my approach of looking at CISS through the lense of U-statistic convergence. He also suggested that we socialize these results a bit by holding a colloquium. I'll need a little time to put a good talk together, but not much. I suggested mid-October. Should be fun, and it will force me to develop an introduction that is both concise and cogent (the intersection of those two has been quite elusive up to now).
